The Third Sex

A new topic for medical inquiry

by Nan Swift
Medical Research Division, HMO-NO, Baltimore, Maryland

We have discovered evidence that suggests the existence of a third sex.

The photograph shown here was taken on Main Street in the city of Montpelier, Vermont, USA. Evidently, the third sex is common enough and sufficiently well observed that it has been assigned its own scientific symbol. We do not yet know why this symbol is posted on a public street.

The Third Sex and the Other Sexes

Presumably (though we are now conducting research to find out for sure) individuals of the third sex are able to take part in many conventional aspects of community social life, including some or perhaps all forms of marriage. Vermont recently changed its laws pertaining to marriage. Formerly the state permitted marriages between males and females. It now also sanctions "civil unions" between any two individuals (subject to certain restrictions that do not pertain to the subject matter of this report -- one such restriction is that both parties to a civil union be alive at the time of the ceremony).

Future Research

We intend to publish details as to the nature of this third sex in the near future, as soon as we have had time to obtain further details and study them. However, we must note that certain areas of our research will be subject to restrictions from our new research sponsors, who have first rights to all our scientific results and conclusions regarding the use of the third sex in the field marketing.
